As a business owner, it is important that you know exactly who your target audience is. It is not enough to send out a blanket email to large groups of people. Even if your strategy reaches huge numbers of people, the results are worthless if you are not reaching viable customers. In order to improve the effectiveness of your marketing campaign, it is important to begin by creating a customer avatar.

What Is a Customer Avatar?

Those who do not fully understand what a customer avatar is may think that it’s some sort of children’s cartoon. But in reality, a customer avatar is simply the process of building buyer personas in order to identify the ideal customer for your company. There are 5 major considerations while creating customer avatars.

When creating customer avatars, you should:

1. Determine the Customer Profile

Come up with some very specific, identifiable details about your ideal customer by answering these questions. This information can be very effective in helping in building customer avatars.

· What do they need?

· Your goal is to fill the void they may have.

· Why do they need it?

It is not enough to know that a customer needs something. You want to target the underlying cause for that need.

2. Fears and Challenges

There is usually some obstacle that prevents the potential customer from dealing with a problem themselves. Think about challenges/external obstacles they face, and the fears and psychological inhibitors that prevent them from moving forward.

3. How Can You Help?

By clearly outlining ways you can help them, you can tailor your marketing strategies to be more effective in reaching your potential customers (see Learning What a Call-to-Action is and How to Make it Work).

4. Personal Details

Personal details help you to get a more complete understanding of your avatar and how you can help them. This information could include their location, age, gender, personal interests, educational background, entertainment choices, etc.

5. Analyze Your Market

You also need to fully understand the market and determine why your customer is buying your product or service. Identifying customer needs and finding a way to fill that need helps develop an attractive strategy to bring them in.

Once you have a better understanding of what a customer avatar is, you will be equipped to launch a campaign that will optimize your lead generation. If you’re interested in learning more about the components feel free to come learn from us at Enfusen!
